Our Financial Commitment to MVPB Families

As a Board of Directors, we believe transparency is vital to keeping our community strong. The purpose of this update is to share exactly how our league operates financially, outline our baseline commitments, and break down what it takes on a “cost-per-player” basis just to keep the lights on and the fields open.

Our primary goal is to strike a careful balance between the programs listed below. By managing these funding sources efficiently, we can offset rising operational costs and keep registration fees as low and accessible as possible for every family that calls MVPB home.

To sustain our league’s growth, protect our players’ experience, and meet our fixed financial obligations, we rely on all of these programs working in unison.

The True Cost of a Privately Managed Complex

MVPB’s greatest asset is our privately rented complex. Having our own dedicated space is a massive advantage for our players, but unlike leagues that use public municipal parks, MVPB receives no city funding for maintenance.

Every single expense for our 6-acre facility is funded entirely by our league. When we break down our annual fixed overhead—from utilities to facility upkeep—across our registered divisions, it requires a significant baseline financial commitment per player just to maintain daily operations.

These essential operational costs include:

  • Field & Turf Management: Continuous upkeep of 6 acres of grass, specialized infield clay, and safety grading.
  • Utilities & Infrastructure: Power for the field lights, water for turf management, trash disposal, and regular septic/portable restroom servicing.
  • Fixed League Overhead: Comprehensive liability, facility, and player insurance required to operate.

Every program  listed below directly offsets these baseline costs. Our commitment to you is to maximize these alternative funding sources so that the financial burden doesn’t fall solely on player registration fees.

Recreational Spring and Fall Baseball

Spring and fall rec baseball at MVPB is the cornerstone of our organization. This league has been in this community for many years and we are only continuing to grow. Over the past few seasons our numbers continue to grow season to season. As families and players flock to travel ball teams MVPB has been able to continue to provide a fun and thriving Rec league.

That is a testament to the players and families within this league.

What is SIBA?

The Southwest Interleague Baseball Alliance (SIBA) is an official PONY-affiliated competitive division designed specifically for pre-formed travel and “select” baseball teams. This joint-venture alliance serves roughly 2,500 youth players across the region by bringing together top talent from local organizations, including MVPB, Temecula Youth Baseball, French Valley Baseball & Softball Association, and Menifee PONY Baseball.

SIBA offers a highly organized, competitive environment that serves as the perfect bridge between traditional recreational play and full-time tournament travel ball.

How does MVPB manage the SIBA League?

  1. Any Travel/Select or independent teams signing up must meet the Murrieta residency requirements in order to register through MVPB.
  2. In conjunction with our other league partners we set aside game slots to be played either at our complex or on city fields if they meet specific requirements.
  3. A few SIBA teams are given an option to pay for a practice slot if additional slots are available.

Why Have SIBA League?

  1. It is a practical business model: SIBA team registration fees typically range from $1,800 to $2,400 per season.
  2. These seasons are scheduled to begin before and continue after the recreational season to ensure our fields are fully utilized year-round.
  3. The SIBA league also provides our Heat teams with a high-quality local environment in which to compete.

What is the HEAT Program?

Murrieta Heat was established with a few goals in mind:

  1. Keep Murrieta Players and families under Murrieta Valley Pony Baseball.
  2. Create a competitive alternative for our players.
  3. Create an affordable option compared to Traditional Travel Organizations.
  4. Develop players and teams to compete with other Leagues Pony Select teams during the Allstar season.

About the Program

Murrieta Heat is a competitive local travel and select baseball program that has quickly established itself as one of the premier programs in the area. What began with a single team just a few seasons ago has rapidly grown to include 9–10 teams ranging from 8U to 13U.

What Sets Murrieta Heat Apart?

The secret to our success is simple: great coaches, a strong culture, and a connected community. While our teams compete at a high level, we never lose sight of our core mission, teaching players to develop a strong work ethic through the game of baseball. By instilling accountability, teamwork, and the value of hard work, we prepare our athletes to be successful in any sport they choose or in whatever challenges life may bring.

All Heat teams benefit from access to Murrieta Valley Pony Baseball’s dedicated complex, providing top-tier facilities for both practices and games.

Our program is tightly connected with MVPB’s recreational league, you’ll often see our Heat players cheering on their friends at rec games or our Heat coaches supporting the league in their director/board member roles and helping with tryouts. At every level, our teams root for each other, creating a true sense of program-wide unity and pride.

Accomplishments

The achievements of the Murrieta Heat program are significant. Our teams have secured numerous tournament victories across organizations such as Perfect Game, USSSA, NCS, NXT Sports, Triple Crown, and the Irvine Memorial tournament. The All-Star season has been equally successful: last summer, the program brought home 13 All-Star banners to display at our complex. In the current season, our talented teams along with our Rec Allstar teams have already secured nine banners, with many more anticipated.

Whether you’re homegrown in Murrieta or from a neighboring city, we welcome you to come see what we’re building.

What is NXT?

Over the last several months, there has been a lot of discussion about NXT Sports and its relationship with MVPB. We want to take a moment to clearly explain what NXT Sports is, why MVPB partnered with them, and how this arrangement benefits the league.

Within the baseball world, there are several tournament-hosting organizations, including Perfect Game, Just Wanna Play Ball, USSSA, Triple Crown Baseball, and others. For years, MVPB contracted with Just Wanna Play Ball to host tournaments at our complex during open weekends between rec seasons. While MVPB did receive compensation from those events, there were also challenges, including the condition the facility was left in after tournaments, trash, debris, and general wear on the complex.

The MVPB Board wanted to find a better alternative, one that was more closely aligned with the league’s overall goals: protecting our facility, utilizing our fields responsibly, and generating revenue to help keep costs as low as possible for MVPB families.

After discussion and review, NXT Sports was unanimously approved by the MVPB Board to provide tournament services for events hosted at the MVPB complex.

The arrangement with NXT Sports is not the same as a standard field rental agreement with an outside tournament company. Under this structure:

  • MVPB is able to open and operate the snack bar during NXT-hosted events.
  • NXT notifies participating teams that no outside food or drinks are allowed, helping support MVPB snack bar revenue.
  • NXT is a service provider, giving the league a larger upside of event revenue than a simple daily field rental.
  • NXT provides the labor, staffing, administration, scheduling, communication, and tournament management.
  • MVPB receives revenue from events held on non-rec weekends, helping offset league operating costs.
  • NXT is required to maintain the fields and complex at a high standard and leave the facility in proper condition.

This structure allows MVPB to receive a greater financial benefit than simply renting the complex to an outside tournament company for a flat daily rate. Instead of only receiving a basic field rental fee, MVPB benefits from tournament participation, snack bar revenue, and better oversight of the facility.

With that in mind, we are happy to share that MVPB has made over $60,000 in gross revenue from NXT related tournament events. This revenue helps support field maintenance, complex operations, equipment, repairs, improvements, and helps reduce the financial burden on MVPB families.

The goal has always been to use MVPB’s greatest asset, our fields, in a way that benefits the league, protects the complex, and helps keep baseball affordable for our families.
